Mentor - How to Get Started

Decide if you have sufficient time to dedicate to a student intern, and whether your project can have a student for a limited period of time (about one semester). Make sure there is sufficient workspace and computer access where the student will be doing the internship.

Develop an Announcement of Opportunity sample and send this electronically to the Education Office for posting. Students will be able to review the Announcements of Opportunity, and submit resumes to be reviewed by the mentor. Mentors will have a mentor log-in code assigned by the Education Office.

After reviewing the resumes, mentors may either contact the student directly through telephone or email, and/or set up an interview at the Visitor Center. Mentors shall prioritize the applicants who they have contacted. Students will establish a similar prioritization for projects.

After selecting students, the Education Office should be notified that the AO is closed, and indicate their choices. The Education Office will notify the students and Faculty Sponsors, and prepare students for security badging and student orientation processes.
